IDAHO LEGAL AID SERVICES
IDAHO VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROGRAMLegal Aid is a statewide program that offers free legal services to low income individuals in civil (non-criminal) matters. An applicant's household income, liquid assets, and type of case involved are all considered in making the determination whether he or she qualifies for Legal Aid's services. Priority may be given in cases in which domestic violence has been implicated.
The program also offers pro se divorce workshops, for individuals who will not be represented by an attorney during their divorce (LINK).
Legal Aid also operates the Domestic Violence Legal Advice Line (LINK).
Some of the types of cases that are routinely accepted by Legal Aid are:
- Family law (divorce, child custody, etc.)
- Domestic violence
- Landlord-tenant disputes
- SSI/Disability
- Medicare/Medicaid
- Housing discrimination
- Public benefits (county assistance, TAFI, food stamps, etc.)
- Senior issues (probate, credit card and medical debt, guardianships, etc)
Individual Legal Aid offices have their own intake priorities and may also handle other, particular areas of law, depending on individual funding sources. Check with your local Legal Aid office for more information.

Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program (IVLP) is a statewide network of volunteer attorneys who offer free legal representation to low income individuals in civil (non-criminal) matters. An applicant's total household income and the type of case involved are considered in making the determination whether the services of this program are available. Priority is given to cases in which domestic violence is involved.
Some of the types of cases routinely accepted by IVLP include:
- Hardship Bankruptcy/Debt Collection. When assets are vulnerable to garnishment and judgments are entered or imminent.
- Child custody, support, and visitation modifications or need to answer petition (only certain types: applicant has proof of child endangerment or case is appropriate for pro se.)
- Divorce or Custody modification to an existing decree (if appropriate for self-representation, caller does not need to qualify financially.)
- Divorce (only certain types, victims of domestic violence, involve child endangerment, or pro se answers)
- Guardianship, Adult or Child
- Immigration (limited situations only)
- Tax-deductible status assistance for Non-Profit Corporations and some other cases for non-profits.
- Will: Non-property issues for single parents or others, depending on circumstances.
