Court Assistance Offices (CAO) provide various services to the public to help ensure equal access to the courts. Services include– civil and small claims court forms, document review, and various forms of legal information (not legal advice).

Types of Services:

  • Review of CAO court forms and documents before they are filed.
  • Availability of public access computers for interactive forms.
  • Help with general form/document questions. Note: legal advice cannot be provided.
  • Assistance with calculating child support and completing a parenting plan.
  • Collection of instructional videos, brochures, and pamphlets on topics such as introduction to the court system, family law matters, domestic violence, etc.
  • Legal research assistance on Law Library web site.

Referrals To:

  • Idaho State Bar Lawyer Referral Service, for a list of attorneys and the types of services they can provide.
  • Hotlines, such as the Domestic Violence, Fair Housing, and Senior Citizen hotlines, operated by Idaho Legal Aid Services and the Brief Legal Consultation hotline operated by the Idaho Law Foundation.
  • Resources to protect children in high-conflict cases (e.g. visitation supervisors). Certified Court Interpreters, Mediators, and Direct Legal Service Providers for low-income individuals.

  • The risks and responsibilities when you represent yourself in court.
  • Understanding the legal process and what to expect in court.
  • Options for assistance and services provided by other government and private agencies.
